"...these are a few omfavorite things". If you're new around these parts AFOMFT is a weekly series that entails my favorite things of the week. I'm constantly finding new quotes I like + new favorite paintings/artists etc. + I thought it'd be fun to share my favorites of the week via this series! :)

Enjoy!

THIS QUOTE:

"Drowning Time" Painted by: Yours Truly

You may already know this if you're a regular around here + caught this post, but I LOVE Surrealism. So it goes without saying I of course love Dali's work + I really liked this quote I found of his because it very much applies to me. I'm usually pretty easy going about a lot of things, far from a perfectionist. But as soon as I pick up that brush/pastel/marker etc. I become a huge perfectionist. It only gets worse once I'm "done" with the piece + I usually end up spending just as much time doing touch ups on the piece as I did actually painting it, trying to perfect each + every little nook + cranny of it. I just can't help myself. Even when I finally decide I've had enough + declare the piece completely finished I'll come back to it later + still not be completely satisfied. (*I should note that I don't feel like this about all of my pieces, just most of them lol.) But this my friends brings us to this quote, Dali was spot on right. I'm not going to reach complete perfection with all of my pieces or even most of them, but at the end of the day I can chalk up those imperfections as experiences. Now I'll know next time what to do/what not to do, so in the end it's all good. :)

THIS PAINTING:

"The Harlequin's Carnival". Okay so I didn't really discover this Joan Miro painting for the first time this week, but I did re-discover it. I first learned about this piece while taking an art history course a couple of years ago + I immediately loved it! I mean all of Miro's work is exquisite. So when I found out about the Miro exhibit at the Carnegie Arts Center in Turlock I was beyond excited! There's only a 2 hour drive that separates me from seeing actual Miro Printmade pieces + you bet I'm going to be making that journey sometime soon before the exhibit is over. But I've got a little time to get to it as it ends in January of next year.

Check out the art center's page for more info!

THIS GUY:

Bryce Petty. Oooo-Wweee! ;) I am a newbie when it comes to watching Football. I had never paid much attention to the sport because no one in my family ever played or watched it so I never learned the logistics of it, that is until as of lately. My bf is a huge football fan + when he heard I didn't know the game he told me "well you're goin' have to learn if you're goin' be hangin' out with me" lol. That morning I learned the game of football + while I was watching this hottie ^^ popped up on the screen! Needless to say the Baylor Bears are now my favorite team hehe ;)

THIS PHOTO:

Evidence of the changing Season. I snapped this photo a few weeks ago as I was in awe of the red, orange + yellow leaves. These were the first leaves I had seen this year that had already changed colors so I thought it'd be cool to capture this moment of me officially saying hello to Fall + goodbye to Summer

THIS INSTA ACCT:

James Tillery. I can't recall how I came across this lovely poet's page, but when I did I scrolled all the way to the bottom + read every single one of his amazing poems. The love poem pictured above was one of my favorites of his, but he also writes poems about a variety of subjects. Such a talented poet!

Go check out his Instagram page to see what I'm talkin' about! :)

THIS MEAL DESSERT:

Chocolate Avocado Mousse. Well I guess it could be a meal ;) lol. Might sound familiar as I did just share the recipe for it a few days ago, but it was seriously soo good! + if your faced is all twisted up right now after reading that, you need to try the recipe even more! I swear it'll make a believer out of you! :)

These were just a few of my favorite things from this week, but I'd like to know...
What was your favorite thing from this week?

I saw this one a while back, but I had forgotten about it up until a few days ago. It just cracked me up when I saw it + I thought I'd share it because...

"Laughter is the shortest distance between two people"

THIS PAINTING:

Don't you love it? I do. I found this piece via the artist @Fabciraolo's Instagram page + instantly fell in love with not only this particular piece, but all of his work! I just love the wild background + the modern twist that the artist combined with the image of the historical figure, Frida Kahlo. She just looks like such a badass, lol. Literally just 2 minutes ago (from when I wrote this) I found out this painting along with many more pieces are going to be on exhibit at the Gauntlet Gallery in SF! :O Yeah that's my O face, I'm super stoked! You bet I'll be gettin' to that one! :)

Go check out his Insta + Website to see even more amazing work! <3

THIS BLOG:

Sassy Eats. I discovered this blog via BSOM's Instagram page + it's become one of my favorite blogs to follow! The recipes that Megan the writer of this blog, shares look super good! + I just love the way she writes, with all that sass! I haven't had a chance to try any of her recipes just yet, but I do have my eye on a couple I'd like to try. You know I'll be sure to share once I get around to it.

Might make it a goal as part of my MOTW :)

THIS PLACE:

Breath taking, am I right? When I saw this photo my jaw pretty much dropped. I mean I see tons of beautiful pictures of places all the time, but this picture just took the cake. I need to visit this place someday! I can already imagine myself breathing in that refreshing, clean mountain air while picnicking alongside the stream.

Adding it to my Bucket List of places I need to see!

THIS MEAL:

'Restaurant Style' French Toast. I'm such a big fan of French toast. Whenever I happen to make breakfast, French toast is always on my menu. I usually make it the same way every time, but I recently came across a recipe for it that I had to try. It wasn't much different from the recipe I usually make, but that 1 ingredient that I never used before really did end up making a difference! Yeah I know I'm being vague. It's caz I'm workin' on a French Toast post that includes the recipe as we speak.

So be on the look out! :)

THIS QUOTE:

"Hippy Shit" | Acrylic Paint | Created by yours truly

I'm a firm believer that a good attitude +positive outlook will get you far in life + I definitely live by this motto. But I do need to work on the patience part of it, which is why I liked this quote so much.

Because if you're not trying to better yourself on a daily basis what's the point?

THIS STREET ART:

Osgemeos.
"To understand the work of OSGEMEOS, it is necessary to allow reason to be replaced by the imaginary – walk through the doors, allowing ourselves to realize the subtleties in the world around us and to embark on an experience that exceeds the visual: to feel first and to understand later.

According to Osgemeos' website Osgemeos literally translates to "the twins". That's right. Twin Brazilian brothers whom are both artists + work together on their craft. I discovered these twins via their Instagram account, + was immediately in love. I just love the bright colors + the flow + energy their works invoke + they're street artists (and you I love street art)!

In any case I was very impressed by their work + I highly suggest you go check out their Instagram + website for even more photos of their work! :)

THIS PENCIL:

Arrgh mateys. Mama got me this pencil a while back because she knows how much I love pirates! It had been MIA for a minute until I found it this week, among the jungle of my art supplies (I'm working on it). I not only love this pencil because it is in fact a pirate pencil but also because my mama did get it for me.

All together now "Aawwwww!!".

THIS SWEATSHIRT:

I've seriously loved skulls since I was about 8 years old. In fact I remember the exact day that I discovered my love for skulls. Mama had taken us to a flea market for the first time ever + pogs (remember those coin shaped toys?) were in their hay day.

I wanted to start collecting them + that's when I stumbled upon pogs with skulls on them. I'm not sure what caught my attention about skulls that day as I'm sure I'd seen them before, but that particular day I fell in love with them + this love has continued on into adulthood, hence the sweatshirt + skull tattoo I have :) My new sweatshirt is not only badass because of the skull design on it but the skull + OBEY logo also glows in the dark!

I mean it really just doesn't get much better than that.

THIS MEAL COFFEE:

Greek coffee, AKA legal crack. This shit is strong especially the way I drink it. Typically this type of coffee is served in a smaller coffee cup, but I always opt for a larger one when I drink it because I loove the flavor of the coffee + a smaller cup just doesn't do it for me. I always drink mine with lots of sugar + cream (either regular or dry cream works just fine). My mom is the one who introduced me to this coffee + she said she got it from the local Mediterranean store, but you might be able to find it at a grocery store.

It'll definitely give ya that extra kick that regular coffee just doesn't have.

If you're new around these parts A Few of My Favorite Things is a weekly series that entails my favorite things of the week. From newly discovered favorite pieces of art, to a new favorite quote + whatever other random things catch my fancy that particular week. As I've mentioned before this weekly series was inspired by the blog A Beautiful Mess.

Here are a few of my favorite things from this week...

THIS QUOTE:

"Swing Life Away" | Oil Pastel | Created by yours truly

To me this quote is all about self love.

Be kind + patient with yourself + give yourself some credit, dammit. Self love is such an important thing to have + to hold on to no matter what's going on in life. Don't forget it.

THIS PIECE OF ART:

Creating Art places my soul at ease" - MF
Mark Fox. This dude is badass. Not only that but he's also a local artist, gotta have love for my fellow Sacramento artists! <3 I found Mark's work via his Instagram + just love every piece there is to see on it! From his abstract works to the little poems + sayings he includes with some of the pieces he posts, the creativity just jumps right out atcha! Quite the amazing thing + somewhat of a rarity at that. You best go check out his page, I know you'll be happy you did!

THESE SHOES:

"Got my Vans on, but they look like sneakers." Yeah sorry had to go there lol. Just love that song. Spoiled myself this week + bought myself some new kicks, of course they're Vans. I've been a fan of Vans since forever + I don't see my my love for them going anywhere. I mean I've been wearing them for over 1/2 my life now, such a crazy thought (that makes me feel old lol). I just love their simple, yet clean design + how they come in a variety of colors + patterns. You can even make your own custom pair on their website, how cool is that?! Anyways decided on these blue bad boys, as I loved the shade of blue they are + I didn't own any shoes of this shade. Pretty damn happy with them + they look awesome with my dark blue jeans.

THIS MEAL:

Creamy Lemon Garlic Shrimp with Fettuccine. Might look familiar as I did share the recipe for this delicious dish earlier this week. It was seriously so damn good! The sauce is rich, creamy + has just the right balance between the lemon + the garlic, if you haven't tried making this yet...#fail.

Anyways I hope you all had an awesome week + an even better weekend! :)

Until next time friends...Cheers!!!

This brand new weekly series A Few of My Favorite Things, has become one of my favorite types of posts to put together. I'm constantly finding new quotes I like + new favorite paintings/artists etc. + I thought it'd be fun to share my favorites of the week via this series, which was inspired by the blog A Beautiful Mess

Here are a few of my favorite things from this week...

THIS QUOTE:

"Serenity" | Acrylic Paint | Created by yours truly

I couldn't find the author of this quote but it's such a good one. <3

THIS PAINTING:

I absolutely love this artist, Camille Rose Garcias's work! I've been an Instagram follower of hers for a while now, but I'm constantly amazed by her whimsical work! Go check out her Instagram for even more photos of her work!

THIS BLOG:

Color Me Katie
This blog is bursting with energy + inspiration! The lady behind the blog Katie, has such a free spirited 'the world is your playground' attitude which anyone can see from reading her blog + I just totally love it! I only wish this blog was up to date, the last post being over a year ago. But I highly suggest you go check out this blog anyways! I know you'll love it!

THIS MEAL:

Creamy Lemon Garlic Shrimp with Fettuccine.
Tastes even better than it looks! As stated in my MOTW I wanted to try my hand at making this dish + I'm soo happy I did! Will be sharing the recipe sometime this week. :)

A Few of My Fav Things |Edition 3

I've so been enjoying putting together this weekly series of A Few of My Favorite Things. If you're new around these parts AFOMFT is a weekly series that entails my favorite things of the week, from a favorite newly discovered artist/painting, to a new favorite quote, etc. As I've mentioned before this weekly series was inspired by the blog ABM.

On with the show...!

THIS QUOTE:

I believe I originally saw this quote on Pinterest + I immediately LOVED it.

THIS PAINTING COLLAGE:

I don't create collages very often, in fact the only collage pieces I've ever done I've already shared with ya here on BSOM. But just because I don't collage much doesn't mean I don't love + appreciate collage pieces. I found the collage pictured above on Mikestagram's Instagram page. There's just something so eerie about this piece it kind of draws you in. Mike's other collages do the exact same thing, most of them being somewhat macabre like the piece pictured above. But I love his style + how he creates so much emotion/energy with his collages (especially the black + white ones). I honestly had such a hard time trying to choose just one of his pieces to feature as my favorite. Go check out his Instagram it's definitely worth looking at.

THIS CAMERA:

My new toy. It's my favorite purchase of this week. I just got it a few days ago but I've been looking at this camera for some time now. I'm still perfecting my method, but will share some of shots with ya soon! :) So far loving this insta-print camera!

THIS SONG:

Love me some E-40 + B-Legit. Enough said.

THIS GUY:

Source

Does he really need an introduction? I don't think so. I guess I'm still day dreaming about The Great Gatsby (referring to last week's Fav Things) which my mom happened to buy me the other day (thanks mom!) Leo just gets better + better as he ages + I'm not just talkin' about his acting. Ohhh wee! ;)

THIS MEAL:

Brown Sugar + Garlic BBQ Chicken! If you caught my MOTW |Edition 2 you'd know this dish was on the menu for the week. I had never tried making it before, but you can bet after trying it I'll be making it again, for sure! Don't mean to tease though as I will be sharing the recipe for this delicious dish this week! Be on the look out! :)

A Few of My Favorite Things | Edition 2

If you happened to catch my first "AFOMFT" post you'd know why the photo above is there. Hell maybe if you didn't read my first post (shame on you) you'd know why it's there. In any case I'm super excited to bring you this installment of my favorite things of the week, which as I mentioned before was inspired by the blog A Beautiful Mess.

Enjoy!

THIS QUOTE:

I originally found this quote on Pinterest, but I couldn't figure out who said it.
It really hit home with me, because it's such a positive message of hope

THIS PAINTING:

Title: Masks
Artist: Louis Soutter

As I mentioned in my first AFOMFT post I follow this one awesome Instagram account called Great Paintings, which is were I found this painting. I really liked this painting because of it's abstract nature, the limited yet effective palette of colors the artist used + the energy/movement of the piece. To me it evokes that feeling you get when you get a sugar or caffeine rush lol but I mean that in a good way.

THIS MOVIE:

The Great Gatsby. Of course I saw this movie when it first came out, but my mom hadn't so we rented it this week. I forgot how much I really like it + she really liked it too! I just love how it's filmed, how all the colors are so saturated + "turned up" + of course the music! I just love how they unexpectedly combined modern rap/music with the old flapper days + how it all went together so well. If you still haven't seen this movie yet, I highly suggest it! :)

THIS GUY:

Simon Rex aka Dirt Nasty.  A model turned actor turned rapper, you might recognize him from Scary Movie although he's done other films as well. I personally love his rapper alter-ego Dirt Nasty. His rhymes are hilarious + quite entertaining! But who am I kidding? He's my favorite guy every week.

THIS MEAL:

Pumpkin Muffins with Cream Cheese Frosting

Okay so maybe these aren't technically a "meal meal" lol but I did eat them for breakfast. If you caught this week's Noonie's |Musings of The Week| 1 you'd know it was my goal this week to make pumpkin muffins or doughnuts for the first time. Well I checked that one off the list! I'll be sharing the recipe for these delicious muffins + frosting in the coming week so be on the look out for it! :)

A Few of My Favorite Things | Edition 1

Doesn't the mere title of this post make you think of that song from The Sound of Music? It does me. Whenever I read it the song just starts playing in my head...

"Rain drops on roses, and whiskers on kittens...
brown paper packages tied up with strings
these are a few of my favorite things."

Well I bet if that song didn't pop into your head when you read the title it will now. You're welcome. :) "A Few of My Favorite Things" is going to be a regular deal here on BSOM. As the title implies these posts will be all about my favorite things of the week, from favorite quotes that I found, to new favorite paintings I may have discovered that week, etc. My inspiration for starting this new series of posts was the blog A Beautiful Mess. If you're a regular here on BSOM you'd know Nelli + I LOVE the blog ABM! There's just so many awesome quality posts to be found on there, it's full of inspiration! ABM's writers regularly write about their favorite things of the week + I liked the idea so much I knew it was something I wanted to start doing. I mean hell I'm constantly finding new artists/paintings/quotes that I like anyways, may as well share them with you all our readers :)

Here are a few of my favorite things from this week...

THIS QUOTE:

"Boy Blue" | Acrylic Paint | Created by yours truly

I instantly fell in love with this quote that I randomly found on the net as I couldn't agree with it more! It got me thinking about this one movie (I can't recall the title of it for the life of me!) I watched I while back that talked about how artists have historically always been rebellious in nature with their art. Whether they did works that went against the majority's political stances or if they incorporated symbols into their works that showed their "rebellious" stance in a more subtle way (think back to the  days of Kings + Queens when everybody had to love whoever was in power + didn't dare speak a bad word about them even if they were corrupt leaders).

THIS PAINTING:

Source
Title: The Colombian Based
Artist: Fernando Botero

I happened to find this painting by way of Instagram. I follow this one Instagram account called "Great Paintings" which features great paintings from both the past, as well as more present day works. I truly enjoy art history + great paintings in general so you can see why this is one of my favorite Insta accounts to follow. Seeing these awesome works of art is just so inspiring to me! I think the subject of the painting (the voluptuous woman) + the colors that compose this piece is what really caught my attention. I like how the woman's facial features are somewhat skewed as they are very small in comparison to the rest of her figure. I thought the artist did a spectacular job capturing this character + I really admire the way he painted the fabrics in the piece. I myself have always struggled with rendering fabrics, so it always fascinates me when I see fabrics rendered so well like the ones in this piece.

THESE CANDLE HOLDERS:

I've had these candle holders for a while, but up until my recent bedroom move (details to come) I didn't have a place to put them where they could really capture any sunlight. Now that I've got a sunnier window sill these bad boys have been lighting up my room with little lights of rainbows that are projected off of the clear crystals of the candle holders. I don't know what it is about these little light rainbows that make me so giddy, but they do. :)

THIS GUY:

G-Eazy. Yep he's my favorite guy of the week, or should I say my crush of the week? I mean come on, just look at him.

THIS MEAL:

I shared the recipe for it almost a year ago (man how time flies!) but I have just recently updated the post with a few minor recipe tweaks that have made an already delicious recipe even better! I hadn't made this yummy meal in a few months but have been craving it + it was every bit as delicious as I knew it would be, ah meatloaf satisfaction. As with the recipe I shared with ya before I served it alongside some mashed potatoes + corn, because if something ain't broken, then don't fix it.

And on that note, I hope you enjoyed my first installment of AFOMFT!
Be on the look out for another post of AFOMFT coming next week!

Until next time friends...Cheers!!!
